Quick summer update

Just a quick boring review of my summer holidays so far 8D

1) Flew back on Wednesday, landed on Thursday afternoon.

2) Started ballet rehearsals in school (in the new gallery space, which is so airy and light).

3) Didn't really draw much yet. Maybe after the concert on 12 July. YAY! Odin Sphere submissions :3

4) Might consider getting a French manicure or just do something with my nails, since I can't during term because of labs and clinics XD
I want to get one of those really silly over-the-top nail art things just because I can. XD

5) I'm waiting for my sis to fly back from the US this Friday, so we can catch up! :3

Bon Odori vs Ballet

Looks like I will be missing Bon Odori again this year, but for happier reasons.

(The past 2 times I missed it because of both my paternal grandparents' separate funerals. D8)

Well, this year my school: SMK Assunta, PJ (PJ folk should know us and our rivalry with Sri Aman! >D) is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the founding of the school; the Golden Jubilee at Dewan Sivik MPPJ on 12 July, Saturday evening. :3

So naturally, all the girls will be preparing items for the grand concert that night. I used to be a member of the English Literary & Debating Society (4 years ago and 3 of the best years of my life) and we still have an annual concert, Literary Night, somewhere in June-August. This year they are combining the 2 events together. :3

Since my mom teaches in Assunta still, the new teacher-advisor was asking her if I could choreograph a ballet for the event!
The only problem is, it's quite a rush because:
1) I have been 'given' 5 dancers (now my super juniors by 4 years) and I don't know their strengths and weaknesses so it's blind choreography
2) I only return to Malaysia on 26 June so we have about 2 weeks exactly to rehearse, and the dress rehearsal is usually a week beforehand
3) Dewan Sivik is really huge so practicing in school is quite different.

Hope this turns out! But it's really nostalgic to choreograph something after 4 years. I roped in my good friend, Micaela, to help (we always choreographed the dances together even back in the day) and we settled on using Swan Lake Op. 20 Scene 1 as the music. :3

Ironically, the last dance we choreographed together was a Riverdance-inspired piece in 2005. Sadly I had the DVD but I have no idea where it is T_T

Housing adventures

Today I got locked IN my house because some wiseguy decided to double-lock my front door (we still haven't figured out who it could be), so I was almost late to college for giving my presentation.

Among the more embarrassing things I tried to get out were:
1) tried to use a fork to pry open the bolt
2) contemplated tying my towel to the balcony railing and somehow dropping down onto the construction truck outside (I'm on the first floor)
3) (Technically my friend suggested this to me later) contemplate using my duvet as a cushion when I surf off the balcony railing.

All of these would have broken some of my bones, so in the end I managed to reach my housemate (who didn't bring her handphone with her to lunch) at work so she had to come back to let me out of the house. ORZ. D8

And then this evening I got locked OUT because Naning is on-call at the hospital and Pei Ching didn't come home until past 7pm. T_T

Luckily my landlady is so nice as to quickly come over with the spare set of keys (I'm currently squatting here WITHOUT any keys).

Moved

I have moved my things to my new place! I haven't moved in officially because the current tenant of my room is still living here until the end of the month. So all the unpacking etc will be only when I return for 3rd year.

At least this big event is now over and I am now free from housing worries for at least the next 2 years. XP

I FOUND A HOUSE!

So after MONTHS of searching,
I FINALLY FOUND A HOUSE!

I'll be living with a lovely Malaysian girl who's working here as an accountant with PriceWaterhouse Coopers.
Her original housemate (the tenant of my room) is a Sarawakian medical intern who is relocating to Cork.

The room is a bit small but I think I can either get a small table for the room or a big one in the living room because that's so big.
It's a bit expensive but the area is safe and it's just 15 mins from college. But I think the best thing is that I'll have such a nice housemate. I realised that I would go crazy living on my own.

I'll be moving in on Wednesday. :3

The Great London Blogpost!

I decided to put this as a separate entry because of the tons of pictures. :3

Anyway, last weekend I visited Aiori in London where she's studying now. ♥
We stayed over in her friends' place in East London for the weekend before she went home to Malaysia.

So here's a pictorial whirlwind tour of London in 3 days!

^ Chinatown entrance. :3 My foodie paradise! Especially since we don't have any decent Chinese food in Dublin. I miss my bubble tea and roast duck rice... T_T

^ Supposedly the home of the best roast duck in London. ♥

^ DUCKYYYYYY!!!!! ♥♥♥

^ Then we went to the British Museum to while away the afternoon. And entrance is free! :3
I was really excited going because I used to have these lovely pictorial world history books as a kid so ancient world history really fascinates me.

^ Set into the floor was part of a poem by Tennyson, I think...

^ The famous Rosetta stone found in Alexandria by British (or was it French?) troops that allowed us to translate Egyptian hieroglyphs!
But ignore my reflection in the glass and lookit the delicate carving!

^ Winged Assyrian Nimrud Lion.

The Egyptian wing has to be my favourite because that's my favourite ancient civilisation. :3

^ Sarcophagus. I heard that the museum used to display the gold funeral mask of Tutankhamun but that's now on tour or something. T_T

^ Set: goddess of chaos.

^ Egyptian pillars in red stone. Not sure if they are Ramses' pillars...

^ Yup, I was there!

^ Beautifully-preserved bas relief with colour! :3

^ A really scary-looking Assyrian lion statue.

These are part of a long narrative wall bas-relief of a royal Assyrian lion hunt:

^ I really like how vivid and lifelike this one is.

^ Part of the parthenon exhibit. (Kinda blurry XP)

^ A lineup of broken Greek statues.

^ Greek pottery with the unique colour scheme.

^ Bust of Pericles, founder of Athens (in our SPM sejarah textbook!).

^ A guitar/ violin-thing carved from this knobbly piece of wood (you can see some of that behind the neck).

^ The ivory Lewis chessmen. I read that they were featured in Harry Potter. D8

^ Crystal Christian carvings (phew!). It's like the pictures are suspended inside a water drop. :3

^ A travelling spoon that can be dismantled and packed into its own little case (beside it)!

^ A miniature golden ship.

^ A medieval gold chest.

^ This is a clock (unbelievable, right?). The platform with the grooves in it is for a little silver ball to roll across. And the platform tilts as the ball rolls from one side to the other. One oscillation of the platform takes 30 seconds! How cool is that?

We then went to the National Portrait Gallery. It was mostly photographs and paintings of famous people.
So after hanging out in the museum, we met up with one of her seniors (who also had his brothers visiting him from Malaysia) to watch Avenue Q!

Then we just walked around London after dinner.

^ This is a beautiful fountain. Love the energy of the horse statues!

^ A cupid statue. We were watching a street performance in front of this. The guy put a condom on his head while making balloon flowers and did lots of mime. XDD
Then on the way back we ate Belgian waffles with honeycomb and butterscotch ice cream = heaven!!!!!! ♥

When we got back to her friends' place there was a birthday party in session, so I got introduced to all her friends. Really missed Malaysian company (of my own age). Stayed up talking until late because you know, when 2 girls share a room... :3

The next day we explored London further after breakfast. We went to St Paul's cathedral (where Princess Diana got married).

^ The rose garden in the cathedral. Sadly there wasn't much fragrance left. T_T

Then we went to Chinatown again for dimsum lunch! :3 After that we went to Hamleys, which is a giant toy store (5 floors) in Oxford Circus.

^ Here's us goofing around in the girls' section XD

^ And this has to be the coolest toy ever! A dentist sim for kids! There's a drill and you can do "amalgam fillings" with a mould too!

^ Indy out of Lego! To celebrate the release of the new movie (which was sadly, a bit disappointing).

^ Chibi Indy! The papier mache rock beside him moves.

There was also this air blast gun thing which can shoot air balls (or gusts, pretty strong ones) from a distance. It's like airbending, or Jedi force! XD

We also hung around for awhile at the big Apple store trying out the new gadgets and we played a racing game on a mac upstairs, which I really suck at XP

While on the way to lunch, we passed by close to some famous London landmarks.

^ The London Eye (it costs 14 pounds a pop, so we didn't bother queuing up), Big Ben and Westminster!

^ A better view of Big Ben.

^ The Globe Theatre, where Shakespeare had his works performed. They were showing King Lear that afternoon for just 5 pounds, but we were late so we couldn't stay for it. T_T

^ Tower Bridge (the one with the two... towers in the distance) and London Bridge is sandwiched between that an the bridge in the foreground.

^ This isn't really a landmark but my friend just brought me there for a laugh. We were almost accosted by a zealous follower at the door, but I managed to snap this pic in time before we escaped!

On the 2nd night, we had dinner at HiSushi. All-you-can-eat sushi for 15 pounds plus 8 ala-cartes! :3
Then we headed back to play Settlers of Catan (which my housemates here are crazy about). I had a headache from the Tube (which was extremely stuffy) so I retired early XP

On the final day, we planned to watch the changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace, but you can't do that on an empty stomach!
So we had breakfast:

^ Dennis' (the guy who let us use his room; and we swear: he reminds us of Morita from Honey and Clover!).

^ Aiori's.

^ Mine! (It's French toast, btw.)

^ Itadakimasu!

Since we got a bit lost on the way, we only caught the tail-end of the ceremony:

^ Haha, Malay guards (on a guest exchange) with songkoks and sampins! XD They were playing one of those patriotic songs (which I can't remember the name of...).

^ The famous guards with bearskin hats.

^ Just outside the palace gates.

^ Here's a guard on duty. :3

^ Buckingham palace gates. The flag was at full mast, which my friend said means the Queen is IN. XD

^ And I vowed to get a picture with one of those English 'bobbies' (policemen)!

Before my flight, we decided to ta pau Krispy Kreme doughnuts, and they said that Harrods, in Knightsbridge, has the best! (And they were SOOOOOO good!)

^ And the other reason we came to Harrods: A giant teddy bear! It's almost touching the ceiling!
They also sell strawberry-scented tiny pink bears. :3

And that's the whole of my London trip in pictures! It was one of the most fun because of the food and the company! I'll definitely go again next year! :3

Tiny art

Since I tend to draw everything nowadays in the backs of my notebooks for college, everything I draw is now usually crammed onto less than half an A4 page. D8

Anyway, I finished watching the first season of the Gokusen J-dorama (I'm in two minds whether or not I should go on to watch the other 2 seasons because the cast doesn't seem as endearing). And partly because Matsumoto Jun is a gem as Sawada Shin!!!!! ♥
I watched it also for Nakama Yukie (I first watched her in Ooku, then in I've Been Married to Hell which is absolutely hilarious!).

So like I always do, I had to get him out of my system! :3

I referenced heavily from the DVD cover (he's such a cute in there!).
And this was also a good chance for me to try out those new fonts I downloaded last week. :3

In other news, I've kinda sorta found a place to live. It's pretty near to college, 20 mins walk or I can get the LUAS.
Only thing is, I'm sharing the apartment with this Hungarian couple (strangers) who invited me to move into the extra room that was recently vacated in their flat.
Is this a good idea?

Something VERY interesting happened today.

I was walking up the stairs when a lecturer of mine accosted me and asked me to show some of my sketches (that I tend to do in the backs of my notebooks) to her colleages. And then...

♥ SHE ASKED ME IF I COULD MAKE SOME DRAWINGS FOR THEM TO HANG UP ON DISPLAY IN THE DENTAL HOSPITAL!!!!!! ♥

OMG... I-I have no idea what to draw (you know, as me having not a single original bone in my body XD). I mean, I could do a digital piece, but like can you imagine fanart hanging up on the wall?!

Can you guys give me ideas?
I have the whole summer to do it, so it's not such a rush. I was thinking of doing one of my brushwork pieces.
There are art pieces by students and qualified dentists already on display, but lots of it is modern art stuff or photography, so I don't really know how my work can fit into there...
I was thinking of doing something Oriental but I don't want to fit into a cliche.

But still, it's a great honour! :3

Clinics and labs wear me out.

Especially when you can't SEE what you're doing and have to crunch up into horrible postures so that you... can... somehow... get... your... bearings... with... the... dental... MIRROR (my all-time hate, because it messes up my spatial orientation and makes me 10 times slower).

ORZ.

Anyway, the house hunt is still on. Got quite a lot of interested people emailing me to offer up their places for me to rent! :3

I don't really have art to post. Been busy with school and accomodation. But have a WIP of the Velvet ballerina:

Balthier and Fran as Bonnie and Clyde (I suck at drawing cars, which is why that's the least fleshed out part). And Balthier's "chibi" proportions (I think it's his left upper arm that's wonky) aren't working out as well as Fran's, because I didn't really plan this properly before racing on to the details. D8

Happy birthday!

Miss you a lot. I am always in need of your wisdom and patience.

My mom always makes us draw cards for our family birthdays. This year, I was actually stumped as to what to draw for my father's birthday.
I know male swans are quite aggressive in protecting their young, so I went and googled swans, and this lovely ref picture came up.

I painted this freehand using the poster colour brush in OC4 Plus. Tried to achieve a vector-ish quality. It's all too messy though XP

While contemplating whether I should go paintballing tomorrow (but it won't likely turn out because everyone, including the organiser is still drunk from Trinity Ball last night, and Yongxian bailed on me), I read a bit of Twilight fanfic.

And hence, I had to draw Jacob Black: the sweet, tries-a-bit-too-hard-to-be-badass Quileute Indian werewolf (whoa, that's a mouthful D8).

Based him shamelessly off Aladdin when my original version had him looking very Vayne-esque. ORZ.

I like his wolfy pendant wood and pearl necklace. ♥
Colouring red indians is fun! :3 I expected his hair to give me more trouble, but figuring it out wasn't as bad as I expected. I wanted to make it longer, like Kocoum's (Pocahontas) but that made him look too old.

And OC4 Plus's spoon pen is too fun to use! Makes inking more pleasant! :3

Food spam!

Since my mom brought my camera charger to me, now I can take pictures of my cooking again! ♥

^ Blueberry scones with sweet Philadelphia cream cheese topping.
Since they are almost going out of season, it's become incredibly expensive to get them, so I'll have to wait for winter to start making them again. :)

^ Ready-made takoyaki with Japanese mayo.
The octopus pieces are a bit hard though. And the whole ball tastes extremely fishy. XP Ah well, that's what you get for buying frozen takoyaki.

^ Japanese curry rice.
I was really inspired (after viewing lots of foodie blogs).

^ Bailey's chilled cheesecake.
It refused to harden (until 3 days later) so the initial cutting and eating was very messy. I think I used the wrong type of jelly or the wrong dilution... The instructions were really vague.

Art dump and a rant

After a LONG weekend without any Internet (WHY, oh WHY?!), I became rather productive and started finishing up pieces which would have otherwise languished in my external HD while I watched anime online.

Balthier is almost done! It's almost impossible to get his vest to look right. I'm not even entirely sure what material it's made of! And it looksa a bit too 3D compared to the rest of him T_T

And I also attempted to make a chilled Bailey's cheesecake using the recipe off the back of the Philadelphia cream cheese packet which refuses to harden even after a day in the fridge. The instructions were really dodgy... T_T

Dominatrix Dino!

Apartment hunting

Sigh, I read everything too fast. XP

Since I finished Eclipse today, I had to get even MORE Edward out of my system XD
I drew these tiny tiny sketches, meaning for them to be something else, but you know how it is.

He's really starting to look very derivative of 90009's works. Is that good or bad, I don't know...

And I wasn't sure if I should post this on DA, but carneaglariel, if you want this for your doujin just let me know. I have the bigger one on my HD. I printed out refs in college today, so I should hopefully be drawing Ingway doing something silly soon! XD

^ I had the hardest time trying to scan it in while retaining the soft shading I did for the skin. Gahh! Still looks better in real life. T_T

Sparkleh Edward!

Just to get this sparkling vampire (literally) out of my system XD I devoured both Twilight and New Moon yesterday afternoon. I have to get my hands on Eclipse now. ♥

Edward really reminds me of all those vampire books I used to read in secondary school. XD Cheesy but still good stuff.
And the movie is coming out this December (how fortuitous!). But I don't agree with their choice of actor for Edward. I personally would have preferred Jude Law in the role. :3

I didn't colour it, but why oh why does he have to be carroty in all the fanart pictures?! Bronze isn't carroty!!!
I wish I could colour his eyes to make them look like a hawk's. :3
I was really inspired by the beautiful men that 90009 draws. ♥

Edward lying in the meadow and being all sparkly. *_* He looks disemboweled and legless but my excuse is that the whole right side of the picture is, and this was really a 'speedpaint'. Nice to discover a new brush. :3
This is the first time I was blocking in colour and thinking about temperature and values without worrying about blending. Maybe I should retain this approach in future.

It's the weirdest concept that vampires would sparkle in the sunlight (and not turn into ash or any of those traditional things).

Dublin minitour

Mum visited me for a week this Easter and I took her around Dublin for a minitour! ♥ And since BA lost her baggage at Heathrow terminal 5, we got Yongxian to come along with us to help take pictures! (My camera charger was in the lost bag =_=)

^ Leaving halls to go to town. The weather was horrible on the 2nd day.

^ Walking on Dame St. (The bus is nothing special, we just wanted to capture it in the picture as it passed by XD)

^ 6 eels forming a Celtic fertility symbol (from inside the Chester Beatty library), or that's what the dude in the museum told us...

^ There's supposed to be a policeman standing in here, but he was busy directing traffic. XD

^ Christchurch cathedral. You have to pay to enter, so we just tramped around outside. :P

^ The weather throughout was crazy: sunny, then rainy and thoroughly windy throughout. The wind destroyed the cute umbrella I was carrying (below).

Anyway, I'm going to town to buy the Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer. I need some good vampire-gothic romance. I really miss L. J. Smith and her Night World series, but my favourite of her vampire works is the Vampire Diaries. And I watched Interview With A Vampire last Saturday, so that must be why I'm craving it XD

And although it's spring right now, it snowed yesterday for awhile. =_=

And since it's the holidays, I'm drawing, as usual. Here's some lame Odin Sphere art after I watched the scenes on Youtube.

It's not finished yet, hence why I haven't bothered to scan it properly. And I drew it in the back of my Basic Dental Care notebook. D8
Oswald's armour has a cloverleaf on it. Too bad he was pretty unlucky in the course of the game, but it all worked out in the end. ♥

Went to Elephant & Castle today for lunch with Yongxian and my mom for spicy chicken wings with sour cream! :3

Braised back of Connemara Pony with Galway Bay sea foam: 25.00 Euro.

And to celebrate I'm posting my art piece that I've worked on during the exams, on and off just to keep myself sane. @_@

Now I can finish up the FFXII Disnies and try to work on that monster FFXII poster.
And go out to eat lemon tart and cook omurice! ♥

My mom is flying over on Saturday. Have to go to the airport to get her. :3

Also, I suddenly want to cosplay Gwendolyn from Odin Sphere. Her costume is too cool! I must go home during summer to play the game. And Aiori and I were talking online and I'm now planning a Jin (Samurai Champloo) cosplay as well. XP
(I hope I get the Schol, then I can get more monies for cosplay!)
